Fashion is closely interwoven with the music scene. This could be seen very impressively in the looks of the 90s, which were dominated by grunge, techno and hip-hop and, due to their close relationship to music, helped to shape a certain attitude towards life and developed a special expressiveness. So it’s not surprising that in the course of the current 90s hype, these very looks are now becoming the focus of trendsetters, as seen at the recent Pitti Uomo men’s fashion fair in Florence. They use the game of tight belly tops, casual baseball shirts, flashy link chains, eye-catching belt bags, wide baggy jeans, nylon shiny joggers as well as extravagant latex pants to tie in with the fashion style brought along by the music of that time. The matching styling? Shaved eyebrows and piercings, dreadlocks, cornrows and clean-shaven heads, in the manner of Marusha, Skin, the front woman of Skunk Anansie, Lenny Kravitz & Co., memories of the Love Parade are awakened.

But while in the 90s the looks were closely connected to a certain music culture and a corresponding attitude towards life, nowadays the picking up of these looks is obviously just a fashion trend?

Diese nutzen das Spiel um knappe Bauchfrei-Tops, lässige Baseball-Shirts, protzige Gliederketten, auffällige Gürteltaschen, weite Baggy Jeans, nylonglänzende Jogger sowie extravagante Latex Pants, um an den Modestil, den damalige Musikrichtungen mit sich brachten, anzuknüpfen. Das passende Styling dazu? Einrasierte Augenbrauen und Piercings, Dreadlocks, Cornrows und glatt rasierte Köpfe, ganz in der Manier von Marusha, Skin, der Frontfrau von Skunk Anansie, Lenny Kravitz & Co., Erinnerungen an die Love Parade werden geweckt.

Während in den 90er Jahren die Looks jedoch in enger Verbindung mit einer bestimmten Musikkultur und einer entsprechenden Lebenseinstellung standen, so handelt es sich beim Aufgreifen dieser Looks heutzutage offensichtlich vielmehr einfach nur um einen Modetrend?
